dc.description.abstract Information retrieval (IR) is the area of study concerned with searching documents or information within documents. It is finding or discovery process to obtain relevant web pages from a collection of information resources. The user describes information needs with a query which consists of a number of words. Ontologybased approach to information retrieval (IR) is a knowledge repository in which concepts and terms are defined as well as relationships between these concepts. The system aims to develop information retrieval using ontology of dress structure for incorporating semantic into an intelligent dress search system. The user can search appropriate dress such as type of dress, gender, dress color, size, brand, fabric and style, etc. The system implements information retrieval system using BM String search algorithm to extract web pages from the ontology, ranking method (TF_IDF) to calculate weights of the terms, and cosine similarity method to get relevance pages. en_US
