Implementation of Storage Methods for XML Documents in Relational DBMS

Abstract

While storing XML documents in RDBMS, serveral methods can be used. This paper is intended to implement a system for storing XML documents is Relational Database Management Systems. This proposed system is chosen toimplement fixed schema methods. There methods store any well-formed XML documents in fixed schema tables and do not require extending data models in order to support storage of XML documents. So the implementation can be run with small changes for most RDBMSs. In this paper, the system used MySQL as the reltional database system. The implementation gives users two alternative storage methods (Xrel and Edge). The system also compared the storage spaces of these methods for insertion operations.
