Identification of Nominal Metaphor in Myanmar Language

Abstract

At the present time, machine translation is progressively more and more used to support multilingual communications. In the process of machine translation, uses of figurative language are one of the reasons that can cause translation errors. These translation errors will lead to miscommunication and break the given message. To reduce these translation errors and to be an effectual communication from one language to another, figurative uses of words become important in natural language processing. In Myanmar Language, these types of uses have not been considered in machine translation systems before. This paper presents the identification of nominal metaphor, one of the types of figurative language, in Myanmar Language using semantic relation of Myanmar WordNet semantic/lexical database. We also describe the general discussion about some issues found in identification of nominal metaphor.
