Abstract:
Land use and land cover change has become a
vital component in current strategies for managing
natural resources and monitoring environmental
changes. Analyzing the changing of hydrological
area, vegetation area and build-up area is one of the
most important factor of land cover change detection.
This proposed system is aimed to detect land cover
changes in the Ayeyarwaddy Delta before and after
Nargis Cyclone using Satellite Images in the period
of 14 years lasting from 2002 to 2016. K-Means
clustering algorithm and Modified Version of
Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) are
utilized for land cover index classification. Temporal
differencing method is used for calculation of land
cover change area. Then, the system predicts and
analyzes the present and future growth of land cover
changes. This system aims to form valuable resources
for urban planner and decision makers to devise
sustainable land use and environmental planning.
