dc.description.abstract Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women world-wide and its early detection can improve the chances of successful treatment and recovery. In this paper we are using data mining techniques for diagnosis and prognosis of cancer. It can help in proper treatment for the cancer patient. Thus this system is very helpful in medical research. The aim is to assist doctors in diagnostic decisions. The popular data mining C4.5 algorithm was used for the comparative studies and the accuracy. The results showed that the ELEM2 algorithm described in the present study was able to produce accurate results in the classification of breast cancer data and the classification rule identified was more acceptable and comprehensible. en_US
